Pure Placid Skaneateles

Pure Placid in Skaneateles: A Love Story

Good news, Pure Placid lovers, soon you’ll be able to find your favorite home and body fragrance products in multiple locations!

I’m thrilled to announce the opening of our first-ever storefront outside of Lake Placid! May 20th we’re opening in Skaneateles, NY. The new store features all of the same non-toxic, chemical-free scented lotions, soaps, and soy candles you’re familiar with at our Lake Placid flagship store. Pure Placid Skaneateles also features a Candle Bar, where customers can create their very own soy candles.

Over the years, whenever the expansion conversation arose, my mother was adamant that we needed a store in Skaneateles. She spent many summers there growing up, staying at a beautiful property on the lake named Fall Brook Point. Her mother (my grandmother) was a concert pianist who played for Clair Gutchesses, the property owner and prominent Skaneateles local. She always regaled me with stories of swimming in the lake, exploring the town, and dreaming about fancy dinners at "The Krebs"- a fine dining restaurant which, at the time, didn't allow kids. So, when my mother turned 75, I surprised her and took her to Skaneateles for a celebratory dinner at the Krebs. That was my first time visiting the area, and from the moment I arrived, I knew I’d found Pure Placid's next home.

Skaneateles

If you’ve never been to Skaneateles, you must make the trip. It's one of those magical places you visit and immediately want to move to. The village sits along the shores of beautiful Skaneateles. A little bigger than Lake Placid (23 miles), this lake has gorgeous waterfront properties and the most miraculously teal blue water you’ve ever seen. As I said, it's just magic…

To celebrate the opening of Pure Placid Skaneateles, and to encourage you to make the trip out, here are some of my favorite places and things to do in Skaneateles.

Sherwood Inn

Sherwood Inn

If you're looking for a place to stay in Skaneateles, look no further than the Sherwood Inn. This historic inn dates back to 1807 and is full of charm and character. The Sherwood Inn also has a great bar, where you can enjoy a drink and some delicious food. Be sure to try their kettle chips topped with bleu cheese fondue and bacon!

Skaneateles Bakery
Skaneateles Bakery

If you have a sweet tooth, you have to try the donuts from Skaneateles Bakery. These delicious treats are made fresh daily and come in a variety of flavors. Our favorites include the classic glazed and the maple bacon.

Skaneateles shopping

Shopping

Downtown Skaneateles has the best shopping! From Drooz, which is the most fun and unique little “general store,” to Rhubarb (our new neighbors), who have a great selection of kitchen goods. Sea Culture Brand has the perfect “lake life outfits,” and Papavero Clay Studio sells pottery and even has its own pottery studio with workshops for all skill levels.

Good Eats and SIps

Good Eats & Sips

Good Eats & Sips is a bright, cheery little café serving delicious coffee, smoothies, light bites, and refreshing beverages. Their dirty chai latte is my favorite, made with espresso, steamed milk, and chai spices. It's the perfect pick-me-up on a chilly day.

Dougs Fish Fry
Doug's Fish Fry

Doug's Fish Fry is a local institution and a must-visit for seafood lovers. Their fried fish is simply amazing - crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Be sure to try it with their famous tartar sauce!

The Krebs

The Krebs

Well of course I can't forget The Krebs! This restaurant is located in a historic building that dates back to 1899 and has been beautifully restored. The menu features a variety of seasonal dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. Some of our favorites include the seared scallops, short rib gnocchi, and the chocolate peanut butter pie. Whether you're looking for a romantic date night spot or a place to celebrate a special occasion, The Krebs is definitely worth a visit.

We hope you enjoy these recommendations and have a wonderful time exploring Skaneateles. As we get to know the town we’ll share more favorite spots. And remember to stop by Pure Placid Skaneateles to discover our latest products and get a taste of the Adirondacks!
