This New Journey Begins - March 2025 Entry 1

It all started in May, right in little old Lake Placid. I was teaching a candle-making class for a group of executives at a retreat—just another day sharing my love for scent and self-care. But that evening, things took an unexpected turn.

I got a call inviting me to a meeting, and before I knew it, I was being asked to bring my expertise to California—to work with their staff and lead candle-making workshops. Without hesitation, I said yes. The contract was signed, and March in California was officially on the calendar!

Then came October. Out of the blue, an old friend from Asia showed up at my Maple Shop. No warning, no text—just a surprise visit that set the stage for another unexpected adventure. I ran down to meet him, and before I knew it, I was being hired to consult on opening retail stores for his wife’s business in Asia.

And just like that, two incredible opportunities unfolded, both sparked by my passion for scent and business. And now here we are - March is finally here and the adventure begins!

First-Class Marcy Takes on California

Monday morning, I woke up early in my hotel room, a mix of excitement and nerves swirling in my stomach. Today was the day—I was flying to California to give my Power of Scent talk to thousands of people. Thousands. No pressure, right?

But let me tell you a little secret—I’m claustrophobic. Planes? Elevators? Not my thing. So, I popped an Ativan, took a deep breath, and hopped onto the shuttle to the airport, reminding myself that I asked for this adventure.

Oh, and not just any adventure—I requested first-class seats as part of my contract. Who am I?! Well, apparently, I’m First-Class Marcy now, and I’m here for it! As I walked down the jet bridge, something felt different. I wasn’t just nervous; I was ready.

I settled into my big, comfy seat, and before I could even take it all in, a flight attendant leaned in with a smile.

“Mrs. Miller, would you like a pre-flight drink?”

Would I? Yes, please!

Next to me sat a very tall, very fit man—clearly an athlete. I wasn’t really in the mood to chat, but I needed help finding the plug for my charger, so I asked him. Turns out, he plays for the San Francisco Giants.

“Oh, I don’t really follow football,” I said casually.

He laughed. “I play baseball.”

Well, that was embarrassing. But hey, he was cool about it. We chatted for a bit before I put on my headphones and settled into a movie. Then came lunch. Chicken, mashed potatoes, asparagus—served with real silverware, crystal glasses, and cloth napkins. Fancy! This was luxury, and I was soaking up every second.

We landed, and just like that, I was in an Uber heading to my Airbnb in Santa Clara. A quick drive, a food delivery, and I was off to sleep.

A Rockstar Moment (With a Side of Panic)

Thanks to the time change, I was up at 3 AM. Plenty of time to get ready… and change my outfit six times. Eventually, I made my way to the venue early to check things out.

When I pulled up, I was not prepared for what I saw—a massive, sprawling complex of buildings. This was huge. I checked in, got escorted to the candle-making workshop room (already set up and looking amazing), and then I was taken to the stage where I’d be speaking.

I walked in and froze.

It was like an arena. A massive stage with tables on the main floor and four levels of seating wrapped around it. Cameras. Lights. A full production. I felt like a rockstar. A really terrified rockstar.

And then… it was time.

I walked out onto the stage, took a deep breath, and… my mind went completely blank.

Say something, Marcy.

“Hello, everyone!”

My voice was shaky, but as I kept going, I found my rhythm. Suddenly, I wasn’t scared—I was strong. I was ready.

And it was amazing.

When I finished, a wave of people rushed up to talk to me. They were excited, engaged, and deeply resonated with what I had shared. We kept talking, and then I jumped into the candle-making workshops, which were packed. We squeezed in as many classes as possible, and by the end of the day, I was exhausted but exhilarated.

A Morning Call That Changed Everything

That evening, I got a call—the company’s owner wanted to meet with me in the morning.

6 AM on Wednesday, my phone rang.

“Good morning, Marcy. I figured you’d be up with the time change. Can I send a car to pick you up?”

Is this my life?! Yes, please!

I was taken to a stunning meeting room filled with windows and light. He greeted me with a warm smile and a cup of coffee, and then we took a walk across the campus.

We talked about everything—my journey, his experiences, and how scent has impacted his life. There was something deeper there, like he was searching for something. We talked about mindset, gratitude, and how scent shapes emotions.

And then, he looked at me and said something that made my heart race.

“I’d love for you to come back and work with various teams.”

I could hardly believe it.

I don’t know if I’m fully capturing how huge this moment was, but let me tell you—this was a BIG deal.

And this? This was only the beginning.

Check Back for tomorrows adventures!
